The Certified Professional Mentor® designation is awarded exclusively by DavenportFolio to experienced individuals and entrepreneurs who possess a minimum of five years in business ownership and/or senior level management, a graduate degree, and who complete an intensive 12-month certification program consisting of education, a professional internship, and supervised practice. The highly qualified CPM designee possesses a thorough understanding of business management, career development, organizational issues, and entrepreneurship.

  • The Certified Professional Mentor®; designation represents an entirely new profession serving professionals and organizations around the world. This new profession takes the concept of mentoring to a whole new level of sophistication, efficacy, and credibility.
  • This new profession was developed by Dr. Debra B, Davenport, CEO of The Davenport Companies, Inc. Training for the CPM designation is provided exclusively by DavenportFolio; Training is provided exclusively through DavenportFolio and certification is awarded by the Society of Professional Mentors.
  • Working with individuals and organizations, the Certified Professional Mentor®; is a trusted adviser and well-connected resource. CPM designees support their clients' long-term professional development by way of personal introductions to key contacts, creating career-building opportunities, and behind-the-scenes networking and efforts on the client's behalf. In addition, the CPM designee provides one-on-one tutelage in such areas as business protocol, communication and interpersonal skills, personal marketing, and development of a positive reputation in the community.
  • Individuals holding the CPM designation take a highly directive, fast-paced, and results-driven approach. Answers are not assumed to lie with the client; rather, clients seek out CPM designated individuals for answers, direction, and guidance. Working collaboratively and concurrently, client and mentor achieve objectives expeditiously. The CPM designee possesses the ability to open doors and move their clients to the next level, saving the client valuable time and resources.
  • Individuals holding the Certified Professional Mentor®; designation are retained and compensated for their counsel and expertise.
  • As the client excels, the Certified Professional Mentor®; provides ongoing guidance and continually raises the bar to move the client to their next level of success. During periodic success evaluations, the Certified Professional Mentor®; and client determine the frequency of their communication and set specific goals for the client to achieve.
  • CPM certification is offered to executives and well-rounded professionals with a minimum of five years senior level experience and a graduate degree. An intensive 12-month training program and supervised practicum are required for certification. Distance learning is provided.

Qualifications for Certification

  • A college degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field. (Examples of appropriate fields include: Business, Psychology, Communication, Management, Organizational Development, Organizational Leadership, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Counseling, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Relations, and Marketing.)
  • A minimum of 5 years professional, executive and/or entrepreneurial experience. References are required.
  • An extensive network of professional contacts, resources, and referral sources. Applicants must provide a comprehensive listing and description of their contacts and resources.
  • Successful completion of a 9-month certification program provided by DavenportFolio, and completion of a 3-month supervised practicum.
  • Proven ability to make key introductions and create positive business and career-enhancing opportunities. References, testimonials, and other documentation may be requested to demonstrate the applicant's abilities in this area.
  • Membership in the Society of Professional Mentors® and adherence to the Society's Code of Ethics.
  • Completion of a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education per year.
