Second Annual DavenportFolio Professional Mentor Awards Honors Valerie Manning and Draws Large VIP Crowd to Support the American Liver Foundation

MARCH 2, 2003. SCOTTSDALE, AZ. Valerie Manning, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, was awarded the Second Annual DavenportFolio Professional Mentor Award at a black-and-white reception, dinner, and silent auction at the Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale on Thursday, February 27, 2003. The semi-formal event benefited the American Liver Foundation.

The awards program Host and Founder Dr. Debra Davenport, president of DavenportFolio, presented the award to Manning in front of 150 attendees, including Manning's family, those whom she had mentored, and business associates from around the state.

"I am delighted to have the privilege of honoring Valerie Manning as this year's Professional Mentor Award recipient," commented Davenport. "She is the quintessential mentor and has developed a long list of very successful protégés. She is a respected and beloved leader in our community and truly deserving of this award."

Davenport, a Master Professional Mentor(tm), licensed career counselor, and advisor to the entrepreneurial community, created the awards program in 2000 to publicly acknowledge the work and dedication of professional mentors who strive to help others reach the pinnacle of their success. In August 2001, the inaugural DavenportFolio Professional Mentor Award was presented to Dr. David Douglas, Director of Liver Transplantation at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix.

Additionally, DavenportFolio supports the work of the American Liver Foundation, which raises much-needed money for liver and gallbladder disease. Davenport's father passed away from gallbladder cancer in 1984.

Emceeing last Thursday night's event was Wendy Burch, television news anchor and media personality, who read moving testimonials from business leaders, entrepreneurs, and coworkers describing the impact Manning had on their personal and professional lives.

A champagne toast and standing ovation marked the high points of a well-deserved tribute to this outstanding mentor and community leader.
